  • The best markets in Shanghai

Imagine the population of a moderate-sized country crammed into one gigantic city filled with more wonders than you can imagine, and you get none other than Shanghai, the most developed and exciting city in China, and possibly all of Asia. As one of the most visited cities in Asia, there’s naturally a lot to see and do in Shanghai.

Museums, monuments and shopping centers are only a tiny portion of all there is to see, and while there are many attractions that any visitor to this city should at least take a look at, one thing that you really shouldn’t miss are the colorful, enticing and exotic markets, so here’s a list of the best markets in Shanghai.

    Dong Tai Road Antique Market

If you just want to browse through memorabilia (some of it of Mao!) and all sorts of junk in search of finding something truly valuable, then you will enjoy a nice long walk in Dong Tai Road Antique Market. You won’t ind only antiques, that’s guaranteed, but if you have the time and patience to sift through second hand goods that are no older than a few

years, you can find some genuine treasures here, especially collectibles.

    Shanghai South Bund Fabric Market

This market near the Bund features three floors of all the fabric you could want. Not only will be you able to find absolutely amazing cashmere and silk fabrics, but ready made clothes like qipaos and men’s shirts too.

If you find a fabric you really love, you can have it custom made into the clothing of your choice, as almost every stall in the market has its own tailor who can whip something up for you in a week or so.

Flower, Bird, Fish and Insect Market

This market is more for staring at the wares than buying things, unless you’re interested in purchasing some fighting crickets. Other than that, this is a pet and pet supply market, where you can stock up on goodies for your pet if you have one, and maybe even find your animal soul mate.

    Yuyuan Market

Yuyuan Market, located near the Yu Gardens, is the best way to get acquainted with the rhythm of local life. As locals

    Cybermart

Located on Huaihai Middle Road, this market is a heaven for computer and tech addicts. You can find all sorts of techno gadgets here, from cutting edge computers, DVDs, computer games and cameras to ipods and digital products of every kind.
