  • The best wildlife viewing places in the world

If you really like animals, then you probably want more than to see them in Animal Planet documentaries or at the zoo, behind bars and cages. The real experience of wildlife viewing entails some effort on the onlooker’s side as well.

Trekking into the wild, to the habitats of specific animal and observing them in their natural medium can’t be trumped by any zoo or documentary, because this is one of the closest things to seeing how the animals really behave without the interference of humans. If you’re clever enough, they won’t even notice you, and you’ll leave with the knowledge that you managed to see without being seen. So for animal lovers, here are some of the best wildlife viewing places in the world.

    Yellowstone National Park, USA

Yellowstone National Park is an amazing corner of nature that civilization hasn’t managed to change yet, and where you can see animals peacefully going about their daily existence.

Some very interesting wildlife can be seen in Yellowstone, like herds of buffaloes lounging by a river, or elks grazing in clearings. There are over 60 species of large-ish mammals in the park which are easy to spot.

    Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda

Getting into Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and getting around won’t be easy, seeing as it is only accessible on foot. But if you make the effort of trekking through the forest, you’ll have the chance to see communities of mountain gorillas, chimps, colobus monkeys and 120 species of mammals, 348 species of birds, plus several hundreds of species or butterflies and other insects.

    Komodo National Park, Indonesia

The Komodo Island is probably most famous for its fearsome endemic species, the Komodo dragon, the largest lizard on the planet, which is carnivorous on top of that. Komodo National Park is home to many other interesting species (although less ravenous than the dragon), and the beaches and the water around the island is great for viewing dolphins, manta rays and other sea creatures.

    Borneo Island, Indonesia

Another Indonesian island that is worth the interest of the wildlife viewer is Borneo, where you’ll see some rather friendlier-looking creatures than on Komodo, the Bornean Orangutan. Borneo is the only place (outside of zoos) where you can see the majestic orangutan in the wild.

    Hudson Bay, Canada

A trip to Hudson Bay might afford you the opportunity of taking a peek into the daily lives of some of the most fascinating animals in the world, polar bears. The town of Churchill, in Hudson Bay, is nicknamed the polar bear capital of the world, because every autumn bears migrate to the shore, waiting for the water to freeze so they could hunt seals.
