There are few people in the world who don’t like watching movies, and probably few people who are not curious in the least about what goes on behind the silver screen – how movies are made, where they are made, and how the world depicted in a films is made to look real.

Movies require a lot of work, and even if at first the film industry seems glamorous and stylish, there’s more to it than good looking actors, there are writers, make up and costume people, camera people and much more. If you are interested in the details of how a film is made, you can take a movie studio tour and go behind the scenes. Here’s a list of the best movie studio tours in the world.

    Warner Brothers, Hollywood, LA

Los Angeles is home to some of the biggest and movie studios in the world, and Warner Brothers is one of them. If you want to see the glamor of Hollywood but you’re also interested in the technical side of film production, you’re going to love this tour.

Guests are taken to points of interest via tram, and some of the most interesting things you’ll see is a giant sound stage, working sets, prop warehouses and post-production labs.

    Universal Studios, Hollywood, LA

Universal Studios is half studio and half theme park, but the ticket allows you entry to both. The tour tram can be rather crowded and hot, but the rewards are worth it: you can see some very impressive giant outdoor sets, creative offices, sound stages (one of which has a moving 60 foot King Kong, and another one which simulates an earth quake). More movies have been shot in this studio than any other one in California, so there’s quite a bit of interesting history to it.

Pinewood Studios, Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, UK

Pinewood Studios is one of the foremost British film studios, and has produced famous movies like Superman, Hellraiser, the Dark Knight or Harry Potter. There are 37 sound stages in the studio, plus a silent stage, stage 007, built specifically for a James Bond film in the 70’s, featuring the biggest water tank in Europe.

    Ramoji Film Studio, Hayathnagar, India

Ramoji is the largest film studio in the world, sprawling on 2000 acres. It is an integrated film studio and recreational park, that has several very interesting natural and artificial attractions. Guests are shuttled to the studio proper  by vintage coaches, and some of the most amazing attractions you’ll see on the tour are sets depicting the Mughal Empire or the Old West.
