The capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka has grown into a busy city with a population of over ten million people over an area of about 1353 sq. km. Dhaka is a city famous for mosques, rickshaws and muslin, and has been attracting tourists to the city for some time.

There are many tourist attractions to visit when in Dhaka, where the most important one is Lalbagh Fort. This is an unfinished fort that dates from 1678 and is located in the Old City. There are other places you can visit while here like interesting mosques, for example the Hussain Dalan.

A visit to the National Museum is a must when in Dhaka. It is located in the northern part of the Old City that is to be found in the old European Zone that is referred to as the Modern City. This museum houses great displays of the rich Hindu, Buddhist and Moghul past of Bangladesh.

You find an extensive collection of Bangladesh fine folk art and handicrafts here and chilling reminders of the country’s bloody war of independence that took place in the year 1971.

The largest shopping complex of South East Asia

Don’t forget to visit the Bashundhara City Shopping Complex when in Dhaka. This is a building found in Dhaka’s Panthapath area, near the five star Pan Pacific Sonargoan Hotel.

This shopping complex is the largest shopping mall found in South East Asia where you find various levels of shops, fast food shops,  indoor amusement parks and a movie theater called ‘Star Cineplex’ which shows English, Bengali and super hit Hindi movies.
