The capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka is a beautiful place to visit for your holidays. And if you are looking for some form of night entertainment you will be happy to learn that there is nightlife in Dhaka.

However, the definition of nightlife in Dhaka is quite different from the idea one gets of nightlife in other parts of the world. Nightlife in Dhaka does not consist of pubs and clubs; instead there are social clubs that cater to the public and are used mainly for weddings and birthday parties.

Alcohol is served in top hotels to foreigners

Don’t actually expect to find any beer in and around Dhaka as Bangladesh is basically an Islamic country. However, there is some hope for the chronic drinkers who need to drink, you should be happy to learn that some top hotels like the Dhaka Sheraton can offer beer and alcohol to foreigners. However, the pull here is that drinks are very expensive in these places.

If you know where to look, it is possible to get some illicit alcohol. The best person to approach if you are put up in a decent hotel is the bell boy.

Don’t expect to find a pub in Bangladesh

As Bangladesh is a Muslim country, never try asking the locals where the pub is. All you will get will be a puzzled look from them. If you want nightlife entertainment, the most you can get in Dhaka are centers for hanging in fast food joints going out for meals together or just by talking to guys and gals on the street.

It is not actually safe walking around Dhaka at night as Dhaka is not that safe! So be careful where you go and to whom you talk to after dark. There are occasional expat scenes to expect as part of Dhaka’s nightlife where there are occasional parties and lots of drinking.

The best nightlife in Dhaka will be in your hotel room

You get to go to these parties only if you are invited to them. There are some discos open at the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel, Purbani Pan Pacific Sonargaon and some other private places in Dhaka’s posh neighborhoods where you need an invitation for admission.

However, instead of going through this hassle to get a drink while in Dhaka, most tourists prefer having an early night.
