There are so many mementos of the Aztec culture in Mexico City but perhaps one of the greatest of them is Templo Mayor and the Museo del Templo Mayor. The first was the greatest temple of the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan, the second one is the museum where the items from the temple's excavation are displayed.

There are wonderful exhibition rooms with different themes, for jewelry, for figurines, for tools and so on. My favorite part is the model of Tenochtitlan,it really does give a glimpse of how life was in this heart of the Empire.  They have more than 6000 items shown, so you should take your time if you don't want to miss anything.

I found it amazing to have Aztec ruins and pyramids right in the center of a modern metropolis. Templo Mayor is amazing, I wish I was there during the excavations. :)Reply
