Bern Nightlife, Switzerland

Bern nightlife is very vibrant and you can have a great time with either classical themed avenues or modern live music and dancing arenas. A lot of posters can be seen all over the city, plastered with new events, and there are several listings on Bern nightlife available pretty much anywhere you decide to look.

In general, Bern nightlife focuses on bars along cobblestone streets full of rich history and even underground cellars that have been around for centuries. Whether for a drink at the platz or dancing well into the night, Bern has something to offer any night owl.

Bern Nightlife – Bern Bars

Don’t compare the nightlife in Bern with Zurich and Geneva. The place has a style of its own. Significant amount of Bern nightlife takes place in little taverns, ideal for having a drink. What is great about this city is that everything is terribly easy to find, so you won’t be wasting time getting lost in any sort of rabbit hole. If you’re up for anything, really, simply head to Kornhausebrucke, which is the main street of Bern, and watch where everyone else is going.

Probably the most popular tavern to date, Klotzlikeller has been around since 1635 and is known to be the oldest existing pub in Bern. This tavern can be found right between the Clock Tower and the Bear Pits, close to the Fountain of Justice. They serve several kinds of wine, as well as a light menu and appetizers.

For a more stately and local taste of what Bern has to offer, visit the Kornhauskeller. Found beneath a granary from the 18th century, the Kornhauskeller presents an ambience of the Old World with very local Swiss offerings on the food menu, from sauerkraut to rösti.

Bern Nightlife – Bern Nightclubs

Since Bern nightlife is fairly simple, most of the clubs are conveniently located right next to each other or, at the very least, can be found in the same vicinity. This makes the entire more compact, even at night. Keep in mind that Bern nightlife doesn’t really start until around 11p.m., so clubs might still be empty before that time.

If you are a big fan of jazz, then Marian’s Jazz Room is definitely the place to be when in Bern. A bit swanky, this red-velvet club gives off a very exclusive VIP feel and can be found within the Innere Enge Hotel. Classical jazz is performed by international and local musicians every night, and they even offer a beautiful Sunday brunch that serenades you with music every week.

The famous and beautiful people of Bern, however, prefer to party at Mocambo. Visit this well-known and extremely popular club any time of the week for a night of crazy dancing. This club has walls of mirrors and even comes with a stage that revolves, several bars, and live music every end of the week. During weeknights, a DJ comes in to spin some tunes, and mid-week, they have a golden oldies night. There is definitely something for everyone at Mocambo, that’s for sure!
