Nanking Nightlife, China

Nanking, China used to be centered almost exclusively in the Fu Zi Miao area next to the QinHuai River.  Night markets, pubs, and restaurants thrived, and night boating was a main attraction.  It was also well-known for many high class prostitutes, and many of their clients were wealthy businessmen or high ranking governmental officials.  Prostitution has since been banned and several commercial areas for nightlife have been developed.

 Shopping has always been prevalent in Nanking.  The Chaotian Gong Market is a nice mix between a flea and antique market.  You can find some great deals here on antique books, statues, jewelry, and jade. 

Central Department Store Hua Hai Lu is a four floor shopping center, with just about every kind of shop imaginable. 

 Confucius Temple Night Market is a great place to find souvenirs and small trinkets for your friends and family.  Pendants, bracelets, and key chains are some of the more popular items found here. Once you have fulfilled your need to shop, there are many restaurants available to choose from. 

The Sunward Fishery Restaurant is a new concept to Nanking, as patrons select their own seafood and it is cooked right before them. 

The Grand Ocean Food Hall is also quite unique, as you purchase your food ticket and use it whenever you wish.  There is a great assortment of food choices available and the price is very low. If after dining, you are looking for a bar or dance club, the Najing 1912 district has several for you to choose from. 

Scarlet’s Music Bar is a very popular two story dance club, and is often full of tourists on the weekends.  For something along the western world style, consider the Absolute Bar and Blue Sky. There is definitely a varied nightlife available in Nanking.  The clubs and bars are usually full and you are guaranteed to have an interesting night on the town in Nanking.
