On a steep, conical hill, the highest point of Oberschwaben (772 m above sea-level) the Waldburg rises. It was the ancestral castle of the lineage of the imperial duke of the same name. From 1221 through 1240 the imperial regalia were kept here.

Waldburg is a really small town really close to Ravensburg where we visited an ancestral castle.

It is a really well maintained castle with a lot of rooms and expositions, like shields, trophies, paintings, and a lot of old furniture. It is funny to find yourself back in time and imagine the lords living there.

A really great destination, not so far away.

This is only one of the castels in that region, maybe next time we can visit more of them.

Munster History

John of Leiden had wanted to rule over the entire world and cleanse it of evil through the use of the sword. This, according to him, was supposedly a preparation for the Second Coming of Jesus. John was not able to fulfill his plans because in 1535, Munster was recaptured. The group of John was persecuted to death. Munster became one of the institutions from which modern Europe was constructed after the Eighty Years’ War. An educational milestone was attained by the city in 1780 when the University of Munster was instituted. In 1802, when the Napoleonic Wars broke, the city was occupied by Prussia and became the capital of Westphalia.... Read more »
