On a steep, conical hill, the highest point of Oberschwaben (772 m above sea-level) the Waldburg rises. It was the ancestral castle of the lineage of the imperial duke of the same name. From 1221 through 1240 the imperial regalia were kept here.

Waldburg is a really small town really close to Ravensburg where we visited an ancestral castle.

It is a really well maintained castle with a lot of rooms and expositions, like shields, trophies, paintings, and a lot of old furniture. It is funny to find yourself back in time and imagine the lords living there.

A really great destination, not so far away.

This is only one of the castels in that region, maybe next time we can visit more of them.

Recommended Nurnberg Guide

Nurnberg History

In the years 1945 and 1946, German officials involved in the Holocaust and other WWII crimes were tried before an international tribunal known as the Nurnberg Trials. The city also became the location for the Nurnberg Military Tribunals managed by the United States’ power in the city. Nurnberg History, just like other cities in Germany, had its own shares of ups and downs. However, it proved to be worth of all the recognition it is getting at the moment. To appreciate the humble beginnings of Germany, learn about Stuttgart History and Friedrichshafen History.... Read more »
