Brooklyn Bridge is one of the nicest bridges out there. What's really nice about it is that you can simply walk across and enjoy a beautiful view over Manhattan, Staten Island and the Statue of Liberty. I would recommend a walk across the bridge to anyone willing to actually walk (which is recommended in New York). Brooklyn Bridge is also the oldest bridge across the Hudson River and actually the first steel hanging bridge in the world. The bridge is about 130 feet above the river and was designed by Johann August Röbling from Thuringia and continued by his son Washington Röbling 2 years later. The bridge was finally finished in May 1883 after 16 years of construction.

One should remember that the crown and the torch have now been locked for the general public and you won’t be permitted to enter that part of the statue. [...]
