The world’s biggest outdoor Buddha statue is considered the Tian Tan Buddha on one of Hong Kong’s islands. It is a huge statue, made of bronze, sitting in the traditional ‘do not fear mudra’ position. It was completed in 1993, exactly on the birthday of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, on the 23rd of December.
An interesting fact about it is that in contrast with other Buddha statues, the Tian Tan faces north and not south.

If you visit the statue you have to keep in mind that there is a really long stairway leading up to the top. After counting about 200 steps I gave up. :) The long way is really worth your effort, however. The statue and the view from the top is spectacular.
