Dagupan City History
The name of the city originates from “Dagupan”, in the native Pangasinan words that means “gathering place” since the city has been a local market core throughout the centuries. The confirmed endeavor to formally put Dagupan on the map has succeeded and it started to operate formally as a sitio of the Lingayen encomienda. Then later on as a resolution town, Augustinian friars called it Bacnotan. The name altered has incited a rebellion directed by Andres Malong after which the word “Nandaragupan” turned out to be a famous term since it was in the aged center point or market “where the people met”.
