Honolulu Sights and Landmarks Guide, Hawaii

Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii and is the most populous place designated to census. Honolulu is the centre for the Hawaiian music and some of the most famous music venues are Waikiki Shell, Hawaii Theatre and Neal Blaisdell Centre Concert Hall.

The live theatre venues include the most famous Diamond Head Theatre. The Contemporary Museum has a main campus and a multi-level art gallery in First Hawaiian Centre.

The Hawaii State Art Museum has a huge selection of art pieces of traditional Hawaiian art and local artists. The Bishop Museum is the largest museum in Honolulu and has the largest selection of natural historical specimens and world's biggest collection of Pacific and Hawaiian cultural artifacts. The Bishop Museum is related to science and history and has been located in the historic Kalihi district in Honolulu

Honolulu Zoo is a primary zoological institution and Waikiki Aquarium is a functional laboratory for marine biology. It is a marine aquarium which is third oldest in the US. It is home to over 3055 organisms from 464 species of marine animals and plants.

There are several gardens in Honolulu which are worth seeing: Liliuokalani Botanical Garden, Foster Botanical Garden and Walker Estate. Lyon Arboretum is a botanical garden which is located on the upper part of Manoa Valley.

The Ala Moana Centre is the biggest shopping mall of Hawaii and 14th biggest one in the US. It has over 290 restaurants and shops including boutiques from leading fashion designers of the world.

Aloha Tower is the lighthouse which still welcomes vessels to Honolulu. With 10 stories, 184 feet of height in addition to 40 feet of flag mast, this tower has remained the tallest structure of Hawaii for more than 40 years.

Diamond Head is a volcanic tuff cone on O’ahu which is known as Laahi to the Hawaiians. The Hanauma Bay is one of the marine embayment formed in a crater or volcanic cone. The bay is popular for its abundance of the green sea turtles known as Honu and parrotfish. ‘Iolani Palace is situated in the capital district of Honolulu downtown and is the single most royal palace utilized as official residence of the reigning monarch.

The Punchbowl National Cemetery serves as a memorial of those people who served the US Armed Forces and has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

USS Arizona Memorial marks the resting place of 1102 sailors out of 1177 killed during the Pearl Harbor attack of 1941. The Waikiki Beach is a shoreline fronting Waikiki and is one of the most popular beaches of the world.
