You will find that most Rayong travel guides recommend the city as an exotic vacation destination offering endless white sandy beaches, clear waters and numerous nearby tourist attractions. The city’s landscape is dominated by long coastal plains determining an average elevation in the city of only 8m.
The local climate is tropical with two seasons a rainy season from June to October and a dry season from November to February when is also the best time to visit these places. The general features of the climate are the high humidity and pleasant temperatures almost all year round usually around 28ºC.
The local hydrographic network is represented by the waters of the ocean and also by the Rayong River crossing the city and flowing into the ocean through a beautiful estuary.

Like many other tropical places, Rayong has a vivid and abundant flora and fauna. Due to high humidity and warm climate flora is very well represented here with numerous species of palm trees, mangroves, tropical fruit trees and more. The best way to meet the local flora is to visit the Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Herbal Park which displays a multitude of Thai local plant species but also the Sopha Botanical Park or Supattra Land which is an open to public tropical fruit orchard.
Fauna is just as diverse both on land and in water. The aquatic fauna is the most spectacular here and the most admired by all tourists during scuba diving or boat trips. The ones who cannot or do not want to get in water in order to see the tropical fish species there is a public aquarium displaying numerous aquatic species in special aquarium tanks with glass tunnels, outdoor ponds, a museum and a boat exhibition.

Rayong is available by air, sea or land offering a good road network, a few railway stations, bus regular routes and more.
If traveling by air you must know that there is no local international airport here so you will first have to reach Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok and then transfer by bus or car to Rayong after a two hour journey. Within the city the most popular are the buses, the motorcycle taxis, the tuk tuk or you can rent a car. No matter your choice transportation in Rayong is very cheap.

The population in Rayong numbers about 54.000 inhabitants most of them of Thai origin. The official language spoken here is Thai along with some dialects and the dominating religion is Buddhism followed by Muslim and Christian.
As for the local economy, we must mention that it is based on manufacturing different decorative or household items made of reed, wood, shells, crystal and more, food industry based on fish and seafood, agriculture cultivating especially rice and fruit trees and of course tourism with everything that comes along with it.

Thai cuisine mixes exotic flavors, spices, fruits, fish, insects, rice and more in order to obtain spectacular dishes appreciated all over the world for their uniqueness. Most of the Thai dishes contain rice served with fish and seafood, different types of sauces, rice noodles, fruits and vegetables.
Some of the most representative dishes in Rayong are the khao tom, a meat soup with rice, Khao man thai, rice with chicken meat and sauces, kuai tiao rat na, which are rice noodles served with a sauce and meat, pla nueng manao which is cooked fish with lime sauce and many more.
Desserts are also based on rice, fruits and locally produced sugar like the khanom tan, coconut cake, tako, a pudding with jasmine flavor served on pandanus leafs, khanom chan, rice cake with coconut milk and many more. Their drinks are mostly refreshing like the ice tea, ice coffee and the traditional rice wine.
