Vadodara Sights and Landmarks Guide, India

Vadodara is famous by the tag line of Culture Capital of India and also by the name of Sayaji Nagari (this name was given after the ruler, Sayaji Rao Gaekwad III, who was one of the most famous rulers who had ruled Vadodara). The city of Vadodara is located on the banks of river Vishwamitri and in historical days it was the capital city for the Gaekwar State.

Vadodara is an important tourist spot due to the numerous monuments, museums, palaces, and gardens etc. which flock the city and its outskirts.

Maharaja Palace is a common term which is used to refer the numerous palaces which are part of Vadodara. One of the such famous palaces is Laxmi Vilas Palace. This palace is famous for the unique architecture which was used to design this palace. It was built during the reign of Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gaekwad III somewhere in the year of 1890. Architect responsible to design this palace was Major Charles Mant.

Makarpura Palace is another famous palace located in Vadodara which is very famous amongst the tourists. It was built by the likes of Maharaja Khende Rao somewhere in the year of 1870. He hired Italian designers of those days to design this dream palace of his. Today the Makarpura Palace is being used by the Indian Air Force as the training school for fresh trainees.

Nazarbuag Palace happens to be another famous palace which is located Vadodara. The auspicious palace was built somewhere in the year of 1721 and the palace today is famous for the solid silver and gold guns which it houses. Each gun is said to weigh around 100 kg. The palace is also famous due to the glass house (sheesh mahal) which it houses.

Some other famous places in the city of Vadodara are: Gandhi Nagar Gruh (located in Town Hall), various Malls and Multiplexes (like More, Spencers, PVR, Deep View of Sursagar, Vadodara Central, Chandan, Inox, and Westside).

One famous museum of Vadodara is the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum which is situated inside the Lakshmi Vilas Palace of Vadodara. Maharaja got this building constructed specially for his kids and now this same monument is being used by the government as a museum which is named after the same Maharaja.
