Dehra Dun Travel Guide, India
Dehradun is also famous amongst the locals by the name of Dehra Doon. It is the capital for the newly formed state of Uttarakhand which came into existence after another huge state, Uttar Pradesh, was divided into two parts. Before that, Dehradun was just another hill station and a famous tourist spot. After the formation of Uttarakhand, the value of Dehradun has increased considerably as it was assigned the status of capital for this new state. As it is a capital the authorities are little more concerned about this city’s condition, thus it is improving day by day.
Dehradun is located somewhere in the Doon valley and it is around 230 km away from the capital of India, New Delhi. The city of Dehradun is surrounded by natural boundaries on all sides like Yamuna River in the west, Himalayas in the North, the very famous plus religious River Ganga in the east, and Shivalik Hills that cover the southern section of the city.
Dehradun also utilizes the natural facilities of the Gangetic planes as the city is located in the proximity of these planes. Haridwar, Mussoorie, Roorkee, Rishikesh, Saharnpur are some of the famous tourist spots and neighboring cities of Dehradun.
Dehradun is one of those cities that experiences the extremes of all the climatic seasons. Summers are hot, winters are very cold, and heavy monsoon wets the city whenever it arrives. Mountains around Dehradun regularly experience huge snow fall during winter but the temperature of the city rarely goes below zero degree Celsius.
Dehradun is full of educational institutions and reputed industries in and around the city. Sometimes environment lovers have pointed out that the number of industries in the hilly city is affecting its atmosphere but which city cares about the atmosphere these days? What they want is technological growth at the expense of literally anything!
In the last two decades, Dehradun has experienced heavy economical growth. The monthly income of individuals in the city is around $1800 while the national monthly income is around $800. One can see the difference as the city is ahead the rest of the country.
