Lille, France is not just known as the European Culture Capital, but it is also known as the most visited place. The city of Lille is surrounded by different beautiful attractions. Lille has different city sights that are preserved alongside with their own lively cultural life.
There are so many sites that are just located within the city. The Old Stock Exchange (Bourse) is a place where used books and flowers are sold. The Museum of the Hospice Comtesse was established in 1237 and it preserves a collection of art and culture. The collection includes over 100 masterpieces of Flemish and Dutch paintings that are displayed in the museum like Delftware, Lillois stoneware, gold and silver plates etc. T
Musée des Beaux Arts (Fine Arts Museum) is one of the great city sights built in 1889 and 1892. The place is located at the southern part and known to be as one of Europe’s best art galleries. The painting collections from Rubens to Picasso are exhibited in this museum as well as the Medieval and Renaissance galleries that include different drawings, ceramics and sculptures. The museum is known to be second after France’s finest museum Louvre. The Natural History and Geological Museum in Lille is one of the best city sights to be visited. The museum is a 19th century structure that has land and sea creatures.
The Porte de Paris was built by Louis XIV during 1685 and 1692 to celebrate the comeback of the city of France. The Beffroi tower is also located in this place and was finished in 1932, and is a part of the Town Hall.
The statue of the Lillie’s Giants is found at the base of the tower. The La Vieille Ville is one of the major tourist sights that have attractive narrow roads and ancient Flemish town houses. The place is best enjoyed while walking along the place or enjoying the mouth-watering food and drinks served at the cafes.
The Center Commercial Euralille is also known as the Euralille Shopping Center that has more than 120 stores, cafes and restaurants. The place was built in 1994 by the well-known planner in town, Rem Koolbaas.
