Lille History

The city of Lille is also called as Isla as it is located on the Deûle River. The city was then the transshipment place on the Deûle. In 1667, the whole region was annexed to France by Louis XIV though the inhabitants were not in favor. During the time of the Spanish series war, Lille was brought back to Netherlands, but was returned to France during the Utrecht Treaty. During the French Revolution, the city suffered too much and the church of St. Peter was destroyed. The new basilica was built in 19th century and Lille became the main industrial capital.
