The city of Yulin has the prefecture level status (which means that its administration level is above a county but below a province) and is part of the Shaanxi Province in China.

Yulin Travel Guide - Geography

This city of Yulin is situated in the extreme northern region of Shaanxi Province and shares its borders with the Mongol Autonomous Region namely Inner Mongolia. The huge Ordos Desert is situated in the north western part of Yulin.

You will be surprised to see the countryside of Yulin which is very green when compared to the deserted area. The reason behind this green countryside is the plantation of shrubs by the local government to slow down the desertification of this area which had heavily gripped the city in last years.

Yulin is actually located on a valley which tends to rise to a good height in its north eastern side. It provides an awesome view of the north western and the western sides of this city.

This city has been isolated from the rest of the country since its birth and this has resulted in the preservation of the architecture of this city. The original city wall is also present in Yulin although a section of this wall was destroyed.

Another important monument which is still present in this town is the awesome watchtower named Zhen Bei Tai which is said to have been built during the very famous Ming Dynasty. It is amongst the largest fortresses that had ever been built on the huge wall of this city. The city also has a Red Stone Gorge which reflects the cultural architecture of this city.

Summer for Yulin is actually very hot and also dry. During the autumn the days are hot but nights tend to be cooler. Autumn can easily extend till the month of December. Winter brings mild temperatures for Yulin although at times night temperatures can touch the bottom of -25 degree Celsius. The deserted side of Yulin experiences chilling winds during winter nights and it can get very cold.
