Pembroke Pines History, Florida

Pembroke Pines, a city with an amazing historical background

Pembroke Pines is a Broward County city in FL, United States. This city was constituted in 1960 and got the name Pembroke from the location near the Pembroke Road and some Pine trees in the locale. Nonetheless, the name might date back further; the given name might have been from the previous proprietor, the Earl of Pembroke from Britain.

The foremost inhabitants in the vicinity were called as Archaic and were the tiny bands of Indians, which initially appeared approximately 4000 years ago. The 1000 years old skeletal remains of the animal hunters were found near the Broward County, indicating perhaps humans have resided here previously. They wandered all around the county for roughly 2000-4000 years. The Archaic Indians further gathered fish, deer, bear, shellfish and plants including prickly pear, sear grape.

It began as the agricultural land taken by the ranch and grew following the war, since the service people were retiring together with huge eastern sections, which were the part of Waldrep Ranch. The foremost house was built in 1956, while in 1959 the city was given the name “the Village of Pembroke Pines”. By the end of 1960, the city services were included with the foremost fire department building.

In 1960, an election was also held when 98 percent of the voters voted in favor of Ernon Day and then the town finally became a city. The property was very less than a square-mile and was in the midst of Hollywood Boulevard and the SW 72nd Avenue. The square mile city was difficult to expand because of the North Perry Airport as well as the South Florida State Hospital. In 1977, a security prison was made, called as the “Broward Correctional Institution” in the northwestern Pembroke Pines. Originally, it was designated for housing the male inmates. The prison has the aptitude for about 611 inmates and also has several academic programs, wellness educational services, vocational programs, substance abuse programs, library services, institutional betterment services and chaplaincy services.

In the year 1980, property from the State Road Flamingo road up to U. S. route 27 U.S. was included in the Pembroke Pines, increasing the size of the city. The extension incorporated the property, which is presently the C.B. Smith Park, the Hollywood Sportitorium, Florida C.B. Smith Park as well as the Miami Hollywood Motors port park. The expansion of the city was one of the major effects of the Hurricane Andrew in the year 1922. Hundreds and thousands of southern Miami Dade County and the Florida Miami Dade County inhabitants move towards northwards to the Broward County.
