Providence is a wonderful city that has known a recent boom making it worth comparing with cities like Boston and New York. And while doing so you will discover differences and similarities. The similarity consists in the city having the air of a big metropolis with a prosperous and modern business and a revitalized downtown where the old buildings have regained their fame.
New buildings and shops have sprung up adding to the already big variety of choices to shop and have fun.
Not only the constructions have known a big boom, it is the revitalization of the waterside was also seen as a priority in shaping up the city.
People who haven’t been to Providence for quite some time will be pleasantly impressed by what the will see and the best thing about it is that this revival has not brought high prices and the living standard is quite good, so good that some consider it to be the best place to live in the east. Maybe one negative thing all this prosperity has brought is corruption at high levels probably because of the possibilities on sight tempted many.
If you wonder where to start your visit a good hint to be taken is to start with College Hill the richest in architectural heritage and cultural life where the list of events is quite long and they are for every part of the day. It is full of young people due to the presence of Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design. The district is also known for its historic buildings.
Downtown is also a center of entertainment and business with plenty of venues and historic buildings and if you fancy visiting more historic buildings Mile of History is the best place as it is filled with 18th century and 19th century homes and the atmosphere it creates is wonderful.
You can explore the other parts of the city walking its lovely streets. As for having fun and for a romantic atmosphere, the Waterplace Park and Riverwalk is the place to be. The city’s big events are held here from concerts to New Year’s Eve parties and if you want to go for a romantic walk with your sweetheart in a beautiful set there are the boat landings and landscaped walkways. Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel also hosts a variety of concerts.
There are events for every occasion, no occasion, and every month of the year; there are activities for every age range, price range, and interest. The city offers the locals and its visitors endless chances of having fun and this is part of the city’s charm. One of the hot spots for having fun is also Jewelry District with a number of clubs and fancy bars featuring different kinds of music from techno to disco while at the Trinity Brewhouse jazz lovers can listen to their favorite style live.
For a more thoughtful cultural life there are venues like the Providence Performing Arts Center, The Opera Providence or the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
Those who want to want to stretch their legs in a bit of skating can head to the Fleet Skating Center where you all the facilities at your disposal, everything is set for all those who come here to have a great time.
From sunup to sundown, a variety of attractions are awaiting all ages in Providence.
