Helsingborg Travel Guide – The Pearl of the Öresund

Helsingborg is one of the oldest cities in Sweden, located on its south-west coast, 34 miles from Malmo and 255 miles from Norrkoping. The city lies east of the Öresund and its major businesses are trade, industry and tourism.

Helsingborg travel guides recommend it as a main travel destination for thousands and thousands of leisure visitors from all over the country and abroad. With a population of about 123,000 inhabitants, the city offers great deal of facilities for increasing its tourism industry. Stretching out by the sound water with its pretty beaches, harbours and waterfront walks, Helsingborg is considered to be “the pearl of the Öresund”.

Opposite of the sound, in Denmark, there lies Elsinore, to which regular ferries and Öresund Bridge handle a heavy traffic so as to make the best link of the two cities.

Helsingborg was first mentioned as the site of a permanent settlement on May 21st, 1085. Since then, the city has been flourishing and expanding itself and today its rich cultural and historical heritage attracts millions of visitors.

Helsingborg Travel Guide – The City of Landborgspromenaden

The city of Halsingborg offers its visitors the most pituresque walking area with its abundance of various shops, fancy restaurants, historic buildings and refreshing gardens, which make it the most attractive city in Scandinavia.

As most sites are located within walk distance, Landborgspromenaden is the most popular walk, which goes both north and south of the city centre, by the shoreline, through beautiful parks and ravines, passing by imposing historical buildings, and offering the most splendid view over the Öresund.

The ruins of Helsingborg Castle are part of the city’s past charm and gives a spendid panorama of the harbour while climbing up the Kärnan Tower.

The gardens surrounding the Sofiero Castle refresh the atmosphere by displaying a large diversity of plants, the perfect place for taking a breath after walking down the Södra Storgatanand, Kullagatan and Bruksgatan streets, the pedestrian shopping area in town. The garden is quite famous for its Rhododendron plantations, in full blossom during summer.

Fredriksdal, an open-air museum, housing splendid gardens, farm animals, old houses, and a theatre, can offer the best part of your sightseeing tour indeed.

An enjoyable stroll into the fantastic wood Pålsjö with its majestical castle would also make your visit in Helsingborg an unforgetable one.
