Ciudad Juarez History, Mexico
The city of Ciudad Juárez (famous amongst the locals by the shorter version ‘Juárez’) was initially known by the name of El Paso del Norte (which means Northern Pass in English) somewhere in 1659 when Spanish Rulers were looking for a path through the Rocky Mountains.
It was during the year 1862 that the city of Ciudad Juárez had served as a stoppage for the army being led by Benito Juárez. This had happened during the times when the French was trying to conquer the country of Mexico. Finally it was the year 1888 when the city of El Paso del Norte was renamed to Ciudad Juárez to honor Benito Juárez.
The city of Ciudad Juárez was used as temporary capital for Mexico during the Revolution of Mexico. It was November 20th, 1910, when the city of Ciudad Juárez was captured by army led by Pancho Villa. These revolutions and fights deteriorated the city of Ciudad Juárez immensely and slowly it became very hard for the city of Ciudad Juárez to recover from its losses.
Later on it was the US Prohibition Era (between the years 1919 to 1933) when the city of Ciudad Juárez finally started to grow economically and became as the major center for entertainment during those days. The city of Ciudad Juárez grew as an important tourist hot spot during 1950s as many nightclubs, bars, and bullfighting fields had emerged in the city. The growing economy resulted in huge number of migrants entering the city of Ciudad Juárez which as a result meant that the population of Ciudad Juárez started to grow very quickly.
The image of Ciudad Juárez has gone down very badly in last few years due to the various criminal activities which have been taking place against the locals especially females.
