The city of Cozumel is famous for its Caribbean and Mexican mix in cultures and surroundings. The Island of Cozumel stretches over 50 kilometers from north to south and around 15 kilometers from east to west. Total area of expansion for the city of Cozumel is around 480 kilometer square. It happens to be the third largest Island of Mexico in terms of area of expansion. It is located on the Caribbean Sea and it faces the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. This city of Cozumel is also part of Quintana Roo (which is a state of Mexico).
As per the census of year 2005 the population of Cozumel was around 72000 inhabitants and the larger chunk of this population lives in San Miguel area of the city. Rest of the Cozumel is used for vegetation.
As you might have guess by now, the city of Cozumel relies totally on tourism when it comes to economical growth. Although the city used to receive small chunks of tourists due to the presence of the runway which was used in World War II still that wasn’t enough. This is when the city of Cozumel was gifted with its own private airport somewhere in the year 1970 and this is when tourism actually took a jump in the city of Cozumel. Although scuba diving used to be the only way to attract tourists for the tourism department of the city yet in last few years many other tourism attractions have popped up thus helping the economy of the city.
The city of Cozumel has two major universities which are always flocked by local students for higher education. These universities are Partenon and Universidad de Quintana Roo.
San Miguel de Cozumel (which is actually the downtown area of Cozumel) is considered to be the major place in the city of Cozumel. It isn’t very modernized that you will find any huge hotels in this region. Rather it is famous for its beach side look and various beach houses.
