Jaipur Sights and Landmarks Guide, India
Jaipur has a lot of tourist spots that are very popular to visitors and locals alike. If you want to be able to get a glance of the spectacular architectures in the pink city, then you need to stay longer other than a day or two since that won’t be enough, either stay there for a week to explore all the city’s sights, or plan ahead for a return visit.
One of the sights that the City of Jaipur is so proud of is the famous Hawa Mahal which means the Palace of the Winds, built in the year 1799 by a person named Sawai Pratap Singh. It is a structure that resembles a honeycomb built in pink sandstone. The palace was designed to offer views of the colorful bazaars and the road through its uniquely-designed windows. These perforated windows, also known as jharokhas, keep the palace’s temperature down. The structure which is pyramid in shape has five floors, where the top three floors is just about the width of a single room while, the first two floors from the bottom are equivalent to two courtyards in area all surrounded with 953 jharokhas.
Another sight that you should visit, a blend of Rajputana architecture and Mughal architecture would be the City Palace that has very wide courtyards, temples, and beautifully designed gardens. Most tourists spend around two to three hours in this glorious place just gazing around the Diwan-e-am and Diwan-e-Khas. Aside from this, a reception hall for kings called the Mubarak Mahal is situated in this place which is now a museum where costumes of royalties in the past are displayed.
If you are on a vacation with your special partner, then both of you should go to the Jal Mahal commonly known as the Water Palace located on the Lake of Man Sagar that gets a lot of visitors during monsoons and this place is known for its romantic effect. This was built during the 18th century, inspired by the creation of the Lake Palace, and was created initially for the purpose of duck shooting parties for the royalties. It is an amazing sight to see with its first four floors being invisible since they are submerged under water and the top floor being the only one visible outside. If you are in the Nahargarh Fort, you will be able to have a view of the Palace.
A couple of things you don’t want to miss would be the Amber and the Nahargarh forts which are both colossal walls built for the purpose of protecting the city from invaders. Visit these places in any season you prefer, take note though that most tourists prefer to visit Jaipur during the months of winter.
