The streets of Plaka are full of tavernas offering traditional live music. Guests can try Taverna Mostrou or the Taverna Kritikou, known for their traditional Greek music and dancing. For low-key music, there’s Daphne’s, Nefeli, Diovenis and Stamatopoulou to name a few.

Bars and Clubs

Bars and clubs are all over the Athens city metropolis. Night owls can go bar hopping along the Monastiraki area, the Psirri, the Thissio, Gazi and Zappeio bash zones. Unique club spots can also be found along the Omonia and Metaxourgeio areas. And there are still unending lines of exciting joints and hippy dance clubs at Exarheia, Kolonaki and Balthazar.

Seaside clubs are also a hit with tourists and locals alike. Coastal restaurants, cafes and bar clubs are jam-packed especially during the summer season. The Akrotiri Club Restaurant, the Bo and Mao Summers are just a few of Athens’ bets coastal joints.

Rembatika and Bouzoukia

Visitors can experience and listen to authentic rembatika and bouzoukia music. Rembatika is defined as music of the urban poor and dispossessed, and the bouzoukia traditionally is a type of guitar usually played loudly. Guests can get a load of these interesting sounds at Stoa Athanaton, the Taximi or the Frangosyriani.

Jazz

Jazz clubs and cafes are also frequented by Athens’ guests. The Half Note Jazz Club, Café Asante, the House of Art and Pinakothiki features local jazz performers and offer a jazzy ambiance to welcome its guests.

Some of these exciting and sometimes naughty club scenes are sure to entertain the crowd. Guests can try the Blue Train, the Eyeland or Kazarma. They can party their hearts out in Lamda or Mayo and dance all night at Moe or Noiz. The Sodade is an Athenian gay nightlife institution like Lamda or escape to the S’cape where fun is all around the place.

The...
