Osijek Nightlife, Croatia

Osijek Nightlife–A Classic Night Out

The banks of Drava River are one of the best places to take a walk during the night. You may go there just to look at the lights on the bridges or you may have a drink in one of the many bars and restaurants. Some of them are located on boats. A popular spot for hanging out and enjoying the night is the Winter Harbor. An interesting evening activity, depending on the performance or languages you understand, is going to the theater, which has been hosted the present building since 1907, but with a long tradition, since 1735. You may listen to a local musical talent playing on the stage at Cadillac, a hospitable club, with walls covered in dark wood and mirrors.

Osijek Nightlife - Tvrda’s Square and Other Places

Tvrda’s Square is a nice example of Hapsburg architecture, but the main attraction and focus is the presence of several pubs and restaurant. Each one has its own specific trend. There are Irish pubs, though the one in Tvrda’s Square named St. Patrick is the most welcoming, then for disco and electro beats lovers (over 21 years of age) there is Tufna. Ice cream and pastry amateurs may choose Waldinger. People who want a historical ambiance may go to General von Becker’s bar. Near the railway station is K bar, but it’s just for the beginning of the night as it closes early. A famous café bar is in Gornji Grad main square, named Mala Kavana, near a mall.

Osijek Nightlife –Dinning

A way of feeling the city’s spirit is by tasting the local dishes and this Osijek Nightlife guide recommends the following: The Old Bridge (named after the 8 miles long oak bridge built by Soleiman the Magnificent). Here you can eat Big Ben- a huge turkey shish kebab or plum dumplings and listen to live music most nights after 10pm. For smokers Strossmayer Restaurant is recommended, it is cheerful and you can also have traditional dishes.

A family style restaurant is Kompa, with huge portions, leaving you no room for desert. At this place or any dinning place with tables on the terrace, make sure to have a mosquito repellant with you as there are plenty and you wouldn’t want them to ruin your evening.

Kod Javora (“At the maple tree” - translation) is another place to enjoy the local flavors, some very spicy as perkeit- a fish specialty or for milder tastes- rezanci sa sirom (noodles with cheese and bacon).

Game stew can be enjoyed in a vintage building from 1750, full of ancient pottery and old photos in hand carved frames. The name of this place is Kod Ruze, meaning “at rose’s”.

At Waldinger, in the restaurant section, you may find inventive dishes, such as game in cherry sauce. Wherever you eat, don’t miss the Croatian wines, like Grasevina for instance and the local beer.
