When the night falls the city doesn’t fall into slumber instead the streets of Vienna start to come alive. Don’t be surprised when a guy hands you a free coupon for a drink or a free entrance to a bar or a club sometime during the night. Take it as a hint that it’s time to experience the nightlife that this city offers. Even if you’re not into the club scene there’s always something to look forward to in this city at night.

Lounging by the Café

You absolutely cannot leave Vienna without even stepping into one of the city’s cafés. After all Vienna is famous for having one of the best coffee cultures. Viennese cafes are great places where you can simply relax and hang around before you can retire for the night.

The best café’s to visit are those featuring a 19th century ambiance where you can bask in your surroundings and simply enjoy the coffee. And don’t just have a cup of coffee try and enjoy different varieties such as the Kleiner Brauner which is black coffee served with cream the Melange which is a blend of coffee and hot milk served with whipped cream or Eiskaffee which is cold coffee with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream served in a tall glass.

One of the most famous ‘intellectual’ cafes in Vienna is the Café Hawelka which is a couple of meters away from the popular gothic cathedral Stephansdom or St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Its late owner prided herself for being a successful matchmaker by sitting random people together.

Another famous café perhaps because of its famous patron Sigmund Freud is the Café Landtmann. This café is near the Rathaus or the City Hall and serves tasty deserts and foods and not just coffee.

There are plenty of cafes drizzled around the city where you can stop for sip or just to relax your feet after a long day.

Partying Around Vienna

The city is home to bars and beerhouses much to the delight of bar hoppers and club goers waiting to have fun and party the night away. To experience the city’s night life head out to the Innere Stadt where you will find most of the city’s best bars.

If you’re very much into art deco check out the American Bar which is also known as Loos' American Bar. This bar is known for its architecture and its beautiful interiors that set you back in 1908 which is when the bar made its debut. This sophisticated bar is a great place to hang out with a group of friends and enjoy some drinks.

You have not experienced true Viennese night life without checking out the popular Flex where most of the younger set hang out and enjoy the music. This is where you can dance to the latest tunes spun by famous DJ and listen to live bands. Flex is one of Europe’s best clubs so this is definitely a place to see and be seen.

The sounds of Vienna are not just for the partygoer or the club hopper it’s also for those happy to lounge around and enjoy good conversation with friends. It’s a healthy balance for any tourist waiting to experience the city at night.
