At the time we were there a festivity was taking place. This was the Celebration of the Snow, or in romanian 'Sarbatorile Zapezii'. This is a two day festival which is organized in every year. People from the surrounding area come here to see the show, not only who would like to ski but families with children and others who like music, eating and watching the different performances on the stage.

Usually there is some kind of music when we are on the ski trails but it's not loud enough to hear it from the top. Now this wasn't a problem :) In the morning and in the afternoon different contests were taking place on the little stage, then in the evening folk and pop bands were singing.

Like at any other festival many little 'shops' opened only for these days. They were selling many kinds of useless but funny things. One was a cap with strange-colored hair. Strange I mean orange, neon-green, purple, etc. In the afternoon half of the skiers had this kind of caps, of course...

At about 10 o'clock in the evening all the lights were turned down and about 30 skiers came down slowly on the longer ski trail with torches on their hand. When they were down, they lined up and fireworks started at the top of the trail. It was really nice :)

Arieseni Travel guide

Set in the hearth of the Apuseni mountains Arieseni, this tiny ski resort is well known mostly in the northern part of Romania. If you come from Hungary you enter Romania at the North West border in the city of Oradea then head towards Beius. It is located at the border of Bihor and Alba counties. The road is usually clean but with a lot of curves and it is better if you come equipped with chains. You can park near the slope but on Saturdays and Sundays it gets pretty crowded so it is better if you leave your car at the lodge.... Read more »
