At the time we were there a festivity was taking place. This was the Celebration of the Snow, or in romanian 'Sarbatorile Zapezii'. This is a two day festival which is organized in every year. People from the surrounding area come here to see the show, not only who would like to ski but families with children and others who like music, eating and watching the different performances on the stage.

Usually there is some kind of music when we are on the ski trails but it's not loud enough to hear it from the top. Now this wasn't a problem :) In the morning and in the afternoon different contests were taking place on the little stage, then in the evening folk and pop bands were singing.

Like at any other festival many little 'shops' opened only for these days. They were selling many kinds of useless but funny things. One was a cap with strange-colored hair. Strange I mean orange, neon-green, purple, etc. In the afternoon half of the skiers had this kind of caps, of course...

At about 10 o'clock in the evening all the lights were turned down and about 30 skiers came down slowly on the longer ski trail with torches on their hand. When they were down, they lined up and fireworks started at the top of the trail. It was really nice :)

Arieseni Travel guide

There are plenty of accommodation possibilities. The majority are lodges and range from 10 to 50 places. There are hotels too and some of them have restaurants, but that’s about it there are no shops around and few locals live here there are only lodges that are rented throughout the season. So the place is pretty unspoiled. Right next to the slope there are possibilities for ski, snowboard and sleigh rentals as well as small bars where you can warm up and have a cup of tea or hot wine. The place is rarely short of snow and most of the time it reaches a meter. It might not have the classy feel of the top skiing resorts, but it is... Read more »
