Visiting the icon workshop of Kalambaka, Greece
On our way to the Meteoras we stopped in this little town, Kalambaka. Here is an icon workshop. After we entered this building we saw on the walls many icons, masks and little statues as well.
When everybody was in, a lady showed us how an icon is made from the beginning till it's finished in a few steps. We also could see how a man who was working there planed a piece of wood for a next icon. An interesting thing is that they use real gold not gold paint when they make one of these pieces of art. There is a very thin layer of gold (it looks like paper) which is used there.
After the demonstration we could go to the shop which was part of the building. They sold there many kinds of things: statues, china, little jugs, and icons of course :)

Meteora experiences in Geece
Recommended Iraklion Guide
Iraklion is located in the northern part of the island, facing mainland Greece, and there are good transport connections with other major Greek cities, as well as foreign destinations. A regular ferry service operates between Iraklion and Santorini, Mykonos and Athens. The closest international airport is Nikos Kazantzakis Airport, located at 5 kilometres from the city. Thanks to the heavy influx of tourists in Crete, this airport is the second busiest in the country, and naturally there are frequent flights to and from destinations from all over the continent, and most major Greek cities, such as Thessaloniki, Rhodes and Athens. If you are... Read more »
