With an overall population of more than 17,000, the city is known to host a variety of races and culture within a small area. Whites and African Americans form the major part of the population, yet the presence of Asians brings color to the mix of cultures.

Art & Culture: the Birthplace of Country Music

Bristol is considered as the Birthplace of Country Music. This name was given to the city after the US Congress passed a resolution in 1998 for Bristol’s wonderful contribution to the recording and promoting music. Ralph Peer, a local musician, was the first one to try his hands on capturing the sound of this traditional ‘folk music’ of this city. A family, who plaied a major role, was the Carter Family. They journeyed across the nation along with Ralph Peer and promoted this music.

Apart from its love for music, people living in the city of Bristol also have a fascination towards sports of different forms, mainly baseball. Appalachian League’s Bristol White Sox was hosted by the city only. Again, top NASCAR driver Kelly Denton also belongs to this city.
