Columbia History

Fort Jackson came into being in 1940 after the reactivation of Camp Jackson, and, on the approval of the Pentagon, it was annexed to the city in 1968. It was in the 1940s that racial discrimination in Columbia was reversed and blacks were slowly given equal treatment and were paid as whites. read more
