The Venice of America
Fort Lauderdale is a relatively small city but the very term Fort Lauderdale is used for connoting the vast metropolis that has actually grown greatly around it. Fort Lauderdale is also referred to as "Venice of America" owing to its intricate and expansive canal system. It is basically situated in the Broward County in Florida, US and houses over 170,000 people.

Great sights of Fort Lauderdale
There are a number of sights in Fort Lauderdale that can be visited if one plans to go on vacation there. Some of the most popular ones that one can just simply not afford to miss visiting are the following: Hugh Taylor Birch State Park -This is a 180 acre park that lies on Barrier Island amidst the Inland Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. It is very famous for its amazing beaches and salt water fishing, surfing and swimming on the northern shores. The area also includes the mangrove swamps, the freshwater lagoons and coastal hardwood hammock. Activities offered comprise of nature walks, exercise courses, picnic areas, canoe rentals and concession stand.
Bonnet House Museum and Gardens -This was built in the year 1920 and is a breathtaking estate listed in the National Register for Historical Sites. It is a very significant tribute to the bygone era. This estate overlooks a great lagoon and incorporates almost 35 acres of wetlands, botanical beauty, lily pond, shell museum, fruit grove, boathouse and a moat surrounded theater. Wildlife can also been seen here. Museum of Discovery and Science -This is a great interactive museum that features exhibits on health, outer space and ecology. It mainly focuses on local environment and displays real coral reefs with live tropical fish and other sea creatures. There is an oak forest replica that has mosses, air plants and lichens.
Butterfly World- This is one place that is greatly popular among children and adults alike. It seems like a tropical rainforest. It houses almost 2000 multicolored butterflies and caterpillars. The aviary is a great place to be at with family and friends. Outside are great and extensive gardens that include a little pond, gift shop, a rose garden, and one pavilion with mounted-specimens of exotic butterflies and insects from all over the world.
Other great places of Fort Lauderdale include the Sawgrass Recreation Park, Stranahan House, Jungle Queen Riverboat Tours, Water Bus and Flamingo Gardens.
