The historical riches of Gyor can be seen in museums, galleries and other architectural attractions located around town. These sites will surely give visitors information about the city.

Gyor Sights – Religious Sites

Bishops Castle and Episcopal Palace. This is one of the oldest religious buildings in Gyor. The site had been renovated several times already but it still has some original parts from the 14th century. It houses a permanent exhibition about the life and martyrdom of Bishop Vilmos Apor. Tours are done every hour when spectators are shown various works of the Bishop by means of lights and sounds, and audio-visual presentations.

Basilica of Gyor. The basilica is one of the most popular religious sites in the city. Its base was placed in the 10th century. The interior of the church is of Baroque style and has fresco decorations. The façade is neo-classical while the roof has neo-Romanesque details.

Ark of the Covenant. The Ark of the Covenant is found in the Gutenberg Square. This is the one of the most – if not the most – magnificent relics of the city. It was made during the Baroque Era as a reconciliation gift of King Charles III to the bishop.
