Sparrenburg Castle. Built in the middle of the 13th century by the Counts of Ravensburg, this castle grandly lies high above Bielefeld. Sparrenburg Castle used to be the executive center and residence of the town’s sovereign. The present appearance of the castle dates back from a reconstruction during the middle Renaissance era. From the castle, tourists can enjoy the panoramic view of Bielefeld.
Alter Markt. More popularly known as the Old Market Square among tourists, this place sits at the heart of Bielefeld. What is exciting about this square is it is surrounded by imposing historic facades. The old houses surrounding the square are open to the public for viewing.
Altstadter Nikolaichirche. The Nikolai Church is located not far from the Old Market Square. This is considered as Bielefeld’s oldest church dating back from the 13th century. The church has Gothic styles and is carved with 250 figures in scenes from biblical stories.
Bielefeld Sights – Museums and Galleries
Museums and galleries in Bielefeld are known for taking part in the yearly event “Nachtansichten” which happens every April. The 11 museums found in the town, on the other hand, offer an abounding year round program of permanent and special exhibitions.
Kunsthalle Bielefeld. This museum formally opened in 1968 exhibiting international art of the 20th century. It was constructed by the New York architect and art historian Philip Johnson. Examples of artwork displays found in Kunsthalle are Expressionist masterpieces and Cubist sculptures.
Bauernhaus Museum. Known to tourists as Farmhouse Museum, this was constructed in 1917. It is the oldest farmhouse museum. It received an award of a special commendation in the 2001 European Museum of the Year Awards.

Botanischer Garten. The Botanical Garden in Bielefeld has a charming scenery. It can be found at the town centre. The garden presents visitors with a constantly shifting scene depending on the season. Here, people can admire the wide collection of plants and the varying landscape patterns.
Climbing Park. Found in Johannisburg, here, aficionados can master their skills in an extensive range of outdoor climbing. The Park offers more than 40 climbing tasks. The objective of this park is to provide visitors with a fun and team building physical activities.
