Tallinn Nightlife, Estonia
Tallinn, one of the beautiful Baltic capitals, is a World Heritage Site and it has many tourist attractions that will satisfy anyone’s need for history, traditions and culture. Thousands of tourists, especially day-trippers from nearby Helsinki come to Tallinn to enjoy themselves. Tallinn is an excellent holiday destination for those who are looking for a good time in a nice pub or a rowdy nightclub. This Tallinn Nightlife Guide will point out some of the places that you absolutely shouldn’t miss.
Tallinn Nightlife - Eating Out
Toompea, the old city, is chock full of restaurants destined especially for the tourist crowd. This is why the prices might seem a bit high for Estonians, but they are quite affordable compared to prices in Western Europe. Kuldse Notsu Kõrt is one of the restaurants in Raekoja plats which offers a traditional menu. This Tallinn Nightlife Guide recommends that you try one of the delicious traditional Estonian deserts.
Mauruse Pubi, near the library, is a great pub for backpackers. It offers large, hearty dishes at affordable prices. Vanaema Juures is a quality restaurant that serves traditional dishes in a warm, friendly atmosphere. This restaurant is a favorite among the locals, so you might want to make a reservation beforehand. The best and most quaint restaurant in the city is the Old Hansa, a place of medieval inspiration. Not only is the menu picked straight out from the tables of the long-gone kings of the North, but also there is no electricity or modern facilities, and the music is always live. The food is simply delicious and the atmosphere and setting are unique.
Tallinn Nightlife - Cafes and Pubs
The old city is dotted with charming little cafes that serve not only the standard coffee or tea, nut also some local specialties. Cafe EAT has dumplings with different fillings, and delectable doughnuts. Kompressor offers a huge pancake menu in addition to excellent coffee. Kohvik Moskva is classier than your regular coffee shop, and it sports a vintage Soviet décor and a somewhat nostalgic ambience. Musi is a wine bar with a good selection of domestic and foreign wines. The place is very cozy and pleasant, and there are also some light dishes that can be enjoyed alongside an excellent glass of wine. Hell Hunt is a small pub in the old city where you can find a huge selection of beer brands, including two local brews.
Tallinn Nightlife Guide - Nightclubs
Although Tallinn is not a large city by European standards, it has a surprisingly lively and diverse nightlife. Von Krahl is located in the city centre, and it is not only a successful indie nightclub, but it is also a theatre. This place is a favorite venue for local bands as well as internationally acclaimed musicians. Bonbon is a pricey and rather exclusive place with a stylish interior and good music. The largest nightclub in Tallinn is Hollywood, a five-floor club with different styles of music and a usually lively crowd.
Although Tallinn is quite safe by day, it is recommended that you take a taxi back to your hotel after a night-out.
