The city of La Serena is a commune (which is the smallest administrative division in Chile) and is located in the Province of Elqui. Considerably smaller than Santiago, La Serena is the capital city for IV Coquimbo Region which is one of the 15 administrative divisions in Chile. It is located 485 miles from Conception.
