Douala Sights and Landmarks Guide, Cameroon

Douala is an expensive city to stay and live in,  yet enjoying the city through its sights need not be expensive at all. The whole country of Cameroon in general is home to an unending journey of sights and wonders.

The Lobeke National Park for example is home to a good number of wild animals including but not limited to buffalo, red river hog, elephant, giant forest hog, yellow-backed duiker, bongo antelope and of course the gorilla from which it is known for. Likewise, the country is home to the most indigenous and ancient of people, the Baka Pygmies.

Mount Cameroon has the highest peak in the western part of Africa and it is the continent’s most active volcano. Climbing on it is worth all the trouble. The Korup Natural Park is probably the only home to Africa’s oldest and most biologically diverse rainforest. There are still other wonders found in this Western African country; however, its flagship city Douala is grandeur in itself.

Of course, no one will ever miss the only international airport in Cameroon, the Douala Airport. It is the entrance point as well as exit point of all foreign guests in the country. Whether you are from Europe, Asia, America or Africa it is a moment worth savoring to have passed in the only way to and from the country. Apart from that the landing and taking off of airplanes, it is a wondrous sight.

The Place du Gouvernment is the seat of government in the city. The building, right in the heart of the city, is responsible for all decision in the Littoral province of Cameroon.

In the Bonapariso Center in Douala, one can find the Marche de Fleurs. It is home to the best local handicraft products of the regions priced at very reasonable prices, one can take home after his or her whole Cameroon experience.

Apart from that, this area is also home to a good number of restaurants and coffee houses. Another famed destination in Douala is a firsthand experience to see the freshest products of the ocean including shrimps, prawns, fish and mussels only found in the Youppe village.

There is no stopping Cameroon in terms of progress with the steady rise of Douala in popularity. Hopefully, in the future it is you who gets to experience the wonders only found in West Africa and only available in Cameroon and Douala.
