Sao Paulo History, Brazil

São Paulo happens to be the largest city of Brazil and the capital of the state São Paulo of Brazil. The metropolitan city of São Paulo ranks amongst the largest metropolitan cities of this planet. São Paulo is also document of being the richest city when compared to other cities of Brazil. Commerce, finance, entertainment, and arts have helped São Paulo grow tremendously in last couple of years.

It was early 1554 when the village São Paulo dos Campos de Piratininga was founded by José de Anchieta and Manuel da Nóbrega, the missionaries of Jesuit. They also started a mission (which was named as Colégio de São Paulo de Piratininga) right after the establishment of this village. The main reason of this mission was to convert the Brazilians living in that area to Christians. The land around this village is where now the state of São Paulo stands.

São Paulo got the privilege of being named a city in the year 1711. Soon São Paulo experienced a kick start in their economy. The main reason behind this economical jump were the tremendous coffee exports which took place during those years. Later on, by the year 1888 many immigrants from Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Germany migrated to Brazil thus helping them remove the tag of Black Country which was slowly starting to hamper them on the international front.

Coffee business went down in the early 20th century due to the fall in coffee prices. Brazilian businessmen were quick to change their business and start industries in various other niches. These new industries attracted many more immigrants into the city which were mainly from Italy, Japan, Europe, Syria, and Lebanon. Even the people from poorer sections of Brazil also migrated to São Paulo in order to earn some quick income.

Although many problems and hurdles did stop the growth of São Paulo, the city has worked hard and the result is clearly visible. São Paulo is one of the busiest cities of today’s Latin America.

After coffee and other industries, São Paulo entered the market of service sector companies plus entertainment business and today it has come out with flying colors in all the fields where it had risked its stake. Slowly it has become an important tourist spot and this has been another reason behind its growing economy.
