    BELEM, BRAZIL TOURIST ATTRACTIONS 

Belem Brazil is located in the Guajará bay.  It is well known as the “City of Mango” because of the vast number of these trees in the city.  Belem's culture is reflected in the colonial architecture of the city which dates back to the 1700's. With a vast selection of tourist stops along the shoreline, you’ll find just about anything you are looking for.

You can start your journey along the docks and go on to visit the fort. The bustling markets are a site to be taken in along the way. The Ver-O-Peso market, meaning check the weight, seems like something you would see only in movies. Offerings a large variety of products, the site’s smells and sounds make for a fun experience you won't soon forget.

Also along the riverside are a number of refurbished warehouses that now offer some of the best restaurants and bars in the area. You can sample the local Amazon beer from inside or enjoy an outdoor view.  Many establishments offer live bands or DJ's. This area is the hub of entertainment for any crowd searching for late night fun.

If you want to enjoy the cultural side of Belem, look no further than the Emilio Goeldi Museum. This museum is known worldwide to be the most important center for study of the Amazon Rain Forest.

You may also want to visit the Tower of Belem. This is the site of thirty monuments dedicated to some of the most important people in Belem’s history.

  Just across the street, you can visit the Monastery of Jeronimos.  This church, built in 1502, is surrounded by beautiful gardens and is the resting place of many famous kings and discoverers. While there, you can also visit the National Museum of Archeology which is located at the end of the monastery.
