Cochabamba Sights and Landmarks Guide, Bolivia

Cochabamba is by far one of the most fun cities in Bolivia. It is a relaxed city with some of the friendliest and humble people on earth. There is great food all over the city and sights to see as well.

One of the greatest aspects of Bolivia is that it has a long colonial history and a rich indigenous culture that has survived throughout colonization. Bolivia has always maintained its indigenous culture rather than giving in to colonization. One tourist sight that can help to explain this interesting Bolivian history is the Museum of Natural History in Cochabamba. While you are there, you should make it a point to head on over to the Palacio Portales since it is right next door. Palacio Portales is a mansion that was built in the 1930s. It was handed over to the state and has since then been converted into a garden and museum. The museum that is incorporated into the Palacio Portales is the Contemporary Arts center. Many people just enjoy looking at the door of the palace. It is of a man’s face, almost like a joker, which attracts many people, even if they have no idea what lays inside! The whole of activities (the garden, palace and museum) is known as the Simon I. Patino Cultural Center.

Cochabamba has made it a priority to maintain the parks and plazas that it has. Therefore, the majority that will you see are extremely clean and make for a nice atmosphere. One such place to go is Cristo de la Concordia. In this park, you will find a homage to Jesus Christ with a statue that is centimeters higher than the famous Rio de Janeiro statue of Christ. There is a surrounding playground and since it is above the city, it offers a panoramic view of the entire city. There are various options to reach the top including a cable car, walking and going with taxi.

Finally, Cochabamba is known for paragliding and its instruction. There are various courses around Cochabamba and they are all the cheapest in all of South America. You should expect to pay around 3000Bs. On average, the beginner courses are ten days long. Each day you will have a class of six hours in which two hours are dedicated to the theory of paragliding while the other four hours consist of paragliding practice.

There is lot's for you to do and see in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
