Lech Travel Guide, Austria

A bit to the north from St Anton am Arlberg you will find the lovely ski resort of Lech. Neighboring the famous Zurs ski resort Lech is more low-key and aims at skiers of lower level and those with a lower budget and who would do with less glamour but they will have some anyway as Lech is glamorous too and the facilities are excellent.

The best way to get here is by flying in to Innsbruck airport and from there are only 100 km left that can be done by train, easy and convenient. While waiting for your connection to Lech, you can also visit Innsbruck as it is really worth it, it has plenty of museums and it is a really nice town.

The resort is situated 1500 m above sea level and you can get up to 2800 m. The slopes offer very good skiing opportunities and as there are plenty of them there is variety too. There are 180 km of groomed slopes and 120 km of off-piste slopes so you really have where to choose from. The majority of the slopes are for intermediate skiers but the more advanced and adventurous ones will find something suitable on off-piste runs. Other facilities like cable cars and lifts are great, reliable and plenty as they are 83 in number so getting around is easy. Getting around in the little village is easy too and there is no need for cars, you won’t see many around anyway.

This quiet little village is perfect for families with kids that do not have to worry about their little ones running in the streets they can play outside without the fear of a car accident. Great feeling especially for those living in a big city and used to overcrowded resorts. The program for kids is great. Parents can leave them in good hands at the Lech Junior Club where they can learn to ski and practice other sports, they are introduced to the area and the program also includes crafts. From 9 am to 4 pm parents will be free to indulge in their favorite activity knowing that their kids will also have a great time. The program is for kids aged 4 to 12. For parents who want to keep their kids close and enjoy their free time together there are plenty of opportunities to explore the area on a guided tour.

The kid shaped activities are plenty in Lech and they will surely come home culturally enriched too as they will have the chance to learn about the Austrian mountain life too. At the Walsermuseum Lech-Tannberg museum they will be able to learn something about the history of the region. Tradition is still very vivid in Lech and you can see many examples of traditional costumes, the architecture of the buildings is astonishing and a good example is St. Nicolas parish church dating 1500.

Besides nice buildings, rich cultural heritage and great skiing opportunities Lech offers other entertainment opportunities like skating and snowboarding.

Winter is the top season in Lech but summer is also a great here and people come to hike and bike and also enjoy the mountain fresh air and great scenery.

If you make up your mind to visit Lech a good idea would be to read the tourist board information and find out all about events and prices.

Lech is a great skiing resort, it offers a lot in terms of accommodation, entertainment and outdoors fun but it is in the same time quiet and stress free, the perfect combination for a great winter or summer holiday.
