Yerevan, also spelled Erevan, Iravan, Erivan or Ayrivan, is the capital of Armenia. This largest city in the country is located on the Hrazdan River and has been playing the role of capital since 1918, with the beginning of the First Republic. Its position in the Ararat plain has given a great advantage to this amazing town, contributing to its turning into the most important city of the young republic at the time. If you travel by air, you will land at Zvartnots International Airport, located at 12 km away from downtown. Another option would be Erebuni Airport, which is situated on the southern part of the city, but this airport is mainly used for military or private flights.
Once arrived there, you should know that Yerevan has 46 bus lines and 24 trolleybus lines, which will help you turn your journey into a relaxing and comfortable one. Just like any other modern European capital, Yerevan has also a subway system that is the fastest among other public transportations choices.
