Newark is considered as the largest city in New Jersey.  It is remembered for its remarkable participation in the Revolutionary War.  After the said occurrence in its history, the people of the place had established Newark as a transportation and manufacturing area.  Its industries were enhanced by the construction of railroads thus opening a good trade center for its people.  It was also known as the shipbuilding place for World War I and is popular for jazz music in the 20th century.

Climate

Newark is said to have a continental climate.  Annual precipitation of snowfall could be tracked at an average of around 42 inches per year.  There are around 205 days in a year which are considered relatively sunny.  July holds the record for Newark’s hottest month at 86 degrees while January is the coldest at 25 degrees (both in Fahrenheit).

Culture and Attractions

The culture of Newark is basically reflected in some of its attractions.  Visual arts and poetry are good evidences of its cultural heritage and are depicted at places like Aljira Inc.  In 1975, a gallery called City Without Walls was constructed and is now a house for the artworks of young New Jersey artists.

Another strong proof of its beautiful history, Newark embraces New Jersey Historical Society.   This place, in particular, covers a lot of museums, libraries and archives.  This spot was founded in 1845, thus, it is regarded as one of the oldest cultural centers in the state.

Landmarks

A place would not be complete without the traditional landmarks.  Landmarks are used to distinguish a certain area apart from others.  Aside from the New Jersey Historical Society, other familiar sights exist in the place.  The Mt. Pleasant Cemetery located at 375 Broadway is the oldest cemetery in the city which is known for the prominent Newarkers buried in its grounds.   The third oldest Episcopal Church known as the House of Prayer could be seen at 407 Street.  The Newark Public Library famous for its 11-branch library system with an estimate of 1.3 million volumes of books is strategically situated at 5 Washington Street.

Events

Newark is typically known to house sports events which cater to the eyes of the viewing public.  If you are in town, you could always verify for the schedule of the games for the National Hockey League.  Newarkers love to play the game, thus, other teams from around the country go to the place for competition.  The Prudential Center usually houses these events.

Newark is certainly a good tourist spot.  You will always enjoy its culture and tradition coupled with historical landmarks.  The sports events may be a different thing but rest assured you will enjoy sitting down on the benches and routing for your favorite Hockey team.
