Santa Clarita History, California

Santa Clarita, CA US - History: Winner of annual awards for strong fiscal management

On December 15, 1987, the city of Santa Clarita was incorporated. The first and the earliest city hall was a rented storefront near a Suzuki motorcycle shop. It took near 20 years for the city of Santa Clarita to achieve a new status.

One of the valid and big reasons for the city’s success is its ability to keep the tax dollars local. 2 years after its incorporation, on Valencia Boulevard the city moved to its new city hall, which is the headquarters of the city government. It houses the city council chambers and the city departments. Here, the planning and city council’s meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Santa Clarita prides itself on being the winner of many annual awards for its investment and strong fiscal management. The statistics have always shown acceleration in good business budget, sales tax revenue and outside grant funding.

For a period of four year term, five city council members are chosen. The election in the city is held after a gap of every two years. City residents, 18 years or above, are allowed to seek election and for this, they have to approach the concerned committee in prior. The city residents are always encouraged to get involved in the happenings of the city.

The first new park was opened in 1989 in Canyon country. Spread over 17 acres, the park is first of many new amenities and facilities built by the city. The list also includes Creek view park, Begonia’s lane park, Central park, Pamplico park, Circle J Ranch park, the Newhall community center, The Santa Clarita sports complex, activities center, skate park, gymnasium and aquatics center. Metro link stations and new roads are also on the list.

Recreational activities have been increased by almost a whopping 400% since the incorporation. There are special events, sports programs, other lessons and cost classes, which are offered every 3 months. It includes Music festival, River rally, Marathon events, Arbor day, emergency expo, concerts, Cowboy poetry and the 4th of July firework show.

Santa Clarita also has a series of services and high quality programs for its residents. A few of them are: free pothole service, free graffiti removal service, park mobile service, parenting programs, sidewalk repair, planting and tree care, using skate park and services for the career center.
