Inverness, UK - Overview: The Heart of Scottish Highlands

Inverness is the city located in Northern Scotland, UK. The local authority addresses Inverness as the ‘Gateway of Highlands’. The city is also considered as the capital of highlands.

Inverness is one of the fastest growing cities in United Kingdom. It is emerging and developing in hi-tech industries and traditional industries. They are at present investing in these areas. The city is said to be the heart of Scottish highlands.

Culture

The city is famous for the most prestigious solo piping competition all over the world. Every September, they host Northern meeting, which is a great hang out for bagpipe lovers. Another exiting and major event in the city is the highland games. This event attracts large tourist crowd. The city is the home for Rugby clubs, two football clubs and a cricket club.

There are various churches, buildings and castles to be visited in the city of Inverness. Old high church is the oldest church on St. Michaels Mount by Riverside. The city exhibits the culture in Highland 2007, where various celebrations and events took place.

Cuisines & Hangouts

Inverness has excellent restaurants, which suit all tastes and budget. Traditional Scottish foods and other modern cuisines are served. When it comes to pub or nightclubs, Inverness has 12’O clock regulations. No one is allowed to enter a pub or nightclub after this deadline. Hootananny is a place especially for providing Celtic Entertainment. This place offers sufficient amount of light music and sweet atmosphere. Mostly these places are banned from smoking even some pubs have non-smoking areas. Almost all enclosed public gathering places are banned from smoking.

Transport

Inverness can be reached easily, as there is an airport, which is served by number of airways such as British Airways, Easy Jet and Highland Airways. After reaching the airport, it takes 10 to 15 Euros to reach the city by taxi. Bus services are also frequently available and cheap. Busses are available from Aberdeen, England, Edinburg, Glasgow and Perth. You find a bus service every half an hour from Naim to Inverness. Excellent way to travel is to take a sleeper train from London. If you wish to view the beauty of Inverness, take a boat through the Caledonian Canal to Fort William.

When it comes to budget, you don’t want to worry about spending huge amount of money. There are accommodations, which can be afforded by everyone. Inverness is a perfect place for friends and family. It has a descent and lively atmosphere.
