Norrkoping Sights and Landmarks Guide, Sweden

Norrkoping is a little city but with very large services offered to both residents and visitors. Norrkoping Sights – Castles

Lofstad Slott. This castle dates back to the 17th century, the time of General Axel Lillie. The last known owner of the castle, Emelie Piper, passed away in 1926 and since then, Lofstad Slott stood quietly. It was then preserved up to the smallest detail. Visitors will find the furniture, other household equipment, and the private possessions of the noble family when walking around the castle. Ekenas Slott. This Renaissance castle was built at a time when Sweden was deeply involved in the European struggle for power during the 17th and 18th centuries. Getting in the castle has an admission fee but joining a skilled guide is absolutely free after. Touring through the castle takes the visitors into the 450 years of Norrkoping history and sometimes, they even leave with a ghost story or two. There is a coffee shop where people can stop by and a souvenir shop.

Museums found in the city of Norrkoping allow visitors to explore the culture and artistry of the city. Arbetets Museum. Believed to be the most striking building in Sweden, this museum’s structure mounts up on a rock in Motola Strom. The Arbetets is a museum unlike no other. It documents the history of the industry in Sweden and at the same time promotes the cultural heritage to further develop the society.

Brandkarsmuseet. This is the biggest fire station museum in Sweden. It provides visitors with an extensive look at the machinery of a fire station over the past 150 years. Guests will find a display of wagons, vehicles, pumps, carts and other fire-fighting gears in Brandkarsmuseet.

Norrkoping Sights – Gardens

In Norrkoping, there are many gardens with different types of floras and plant species. These places make visitors feel closer to the environment.

Kaktusgruppen. There are around 25,000 cacti planted in this garden every year. The garden has a yearly theme where the display is changed to fit the subject of the year.

Rosariet. Known as the Rosarium to English-speakers, the garden welcomes everyone at no extra fee. The astonishing rhododendron display is the visitors’ main reason for visiting this magnificent rose garden.
