San Luis Potosi Sights and Landmarks Guide, Mexico
If you are planning to visit the lovely and developed city of San Luis Potosi in Mexico be careful. San Luis Potosi is the name of the Mexican State and it is also the name of a city. Therefore, while sightseeing make sure you are visiting sights in the city and not in the whole province or state so that there are not any unexpected surprises. San Luis Potosi is also known as the City of Gardens for its beautiful gardens in the various plazas around the city.
San Luis Potosi is often referred to as little Spain because of the tremendous amount of European influence in architecture that can be seen in the various buildings in this city which look almost exactly like those in Spain. San Luis Potosi is also very famous for its bull fighting during its peak season in the Plaza de Toros Fermin Rivera.
If you are unsure of where to begin your day of sightseeing in San Luis Potosi, it is recommended that you start in the European modeled Plaza de Armas because it is centrally located in the downtown area of the city. It also contains all of the city’s most important buildings. Located here in this plaza are the following important buildings:
Templo de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, San Luis Potosi’s Main Cathedral, Governor’s Palace.
Templo de Nuestra Señora del Carmen is the most famous and popular church in San Luis Potosi because of its colorful surrounding. It is decorated with bright tiles which form a huge dome with the church. You can also check out the Templo de San Francisco.
If you are interested in other art besides what the churches can offer, you may want to pass by the Museo Federico Silva, the Regional Museum of San Luis Porosi and the Museo Nacional de Mascaras. For an excellent concert or play, you should try going to the Teatro de la Paz or the Peace Theater.
The entire downtown area is also spectacular to see considering its high level of development and the high rise buildings that the San Luis Potosi city has acquired over the years.
