Manzanillo History, Mexico
The city of Manzanillo happens to be a famous and a very busy sea port in the country of Mexico.. The city of Manzanillo has been an important port city way back before the Spanish were controlling it. Its perfect harbor with natural facilities has always been famous amongst various businessmen.
It was the followers of the famous traveler Hernan Cortés who, under the leadership of Hernan, landed in the port of Manzanillo. Hernan Cortés and his team was in search of the Chinese treasure in the Pacific areas and they became amongst the first travelers who visited the city of Manzanillo. Legendary stories say that when Hernan and his followers landed on the port of Manzanillo they were welcomed by fairies dancing on beautiful moonlit water.
During those days, this city of Manzanillo (famous by the name of Tlacotla) was being ruled by Tarascans. The word Tlacotla means “the place where conch cells are found”. The latest name Hernan Cortés was inspired by the Manzanilla trees which were available in this city in abundance during those years.
It was the year 1522 when migrants from various European countries entered the city of Manzanillo. During those times, people were using the Manzanillo Port as the point of departure for various Spanish expeditions towards Northern Mexico and Baja California.
It was the presence of hardwood trees in huge numbers which forced Hernan Cortés to establish the first shipyard of Latin America right on the mouth of River Salagua. As of now, this sight is being used for golf course lovers due to the natural greenery.
It was the year 1825 when the Manzanillo Port was officially opened for the locals and the businessmen of the city. Later on, it was the year 1869 when the city of Manzanillo was gifted with its own telegraph office. Finally, by the year 1873 it was officially tagged as a city. In 1890 the rail service was started.
