Guadalajara is the second biggest city of Mexico having a population of more than 3 million people. This is a city of contrasts as it has a rich history, and is very modern in its outlook. Though this is not a resort, any tourist will agree that this is indeed the perfect holiday destination.
Guadalajara is basically a metropolitan city and a business center. However despite the city being so busy, there are still signs of serenity in some places. There are monuments, fountains and parks, along with tourist attractions to keep you busy while in Guadalajara.
Guadalajara is a city with a rich history, dating to the 16th century. This is the city known as the birthplace of Mariachi bands and is also the place of origin of the Mexican hat dance.
Fix yourself a tequila in Guadalajara
The Tequila drink everyone knows about stems from the town of Tequila in Guadalajara. Besides Tequila, the surrounding area of Guadalajara is famous for its craftsmen that create world famous handmade products.
If you are a music enthusiast, then you have to visit Guadalajara during its October festival spanning throughout the month. You find worldwide artisans performing to music and cultural and artistic events worth visiting during your stay here.
Besides looking at old churches and buildings, there is a great zoo to visit during your visit to Guadalajara. And next to the zoo is a children’s amusement park offering more than thirty five rides and sights catering to kids like a marine park with seal and dolphin shows. In addition to this, you also find shows with hawks, macaws and toucans periodically conducted in this amusement park.
Love your rodeo and soccer
Rodeo lovers have bullfights and rodeos to watch practically every Sunday. You find charros (cowboys) trying out their luck in different events and great food and beverages during the break accompanied by performing mariachis.
Sports lovers have soccer matches to watch, races on go-kart tracks and various water parks and hot springs to visit. There are also quite a few multi-cinemas across the city and in most malls if you wish to watch a movie while in Guadalajara.
The Los Colomos Park is a great place to visit for a stroll, jogging and walking during your free time in Guadalajara. The cultural center of Guadalajara is the Castle with paths leading to special areas. The Japanese Gardens found in this park was donated by the sister city of Guadalajara, Kyoto, Japan.
And if you love history, you have to visit the Archaeological Museum of Western Mexico where you get to see pottery exhibits and other artifacts during your stay in Guadalajara. All this makes a visit to Guadalajara an interesting and worthy visit.
